Update COVID-19 03 April 2020

03 April 2020 — Five (5) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-nine (89).
•    Five (5) contacts of previously confirmed positive cases, who were identified through tracing.  


All new cases have been isolated and the tracing is ongoing. All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. 

Tackling Malaria in the context of COVID-19 outbreak in Northeast Nigeria

WHO concerned as COVID-19 cases accelerate in Africa

With more than 6000 COVID-19 cases reported in Africa, the virus is threatening fragile health systems on the continent. Infections are increasingly spreading not only between African countries but within different localities in the hardest-hit countries.

Update COVID-19 02 April 2020

02 April 2020 — Two (2) new COVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-four (84).
•    Two (2) frequent travelers who had visited multiple countries 


All new cases have been isolated and the tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management. All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. 

State of Public Emergency starts at midnight - a COVID-19 Response

Gaborone, Botswana - 02 April 2020: After recording 4 cases of COVID-19 including 1 (one) death, His Excellency the President Dr Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi declared a State of Public Emergency which curtails non-essential services and unnecessary movement. The State of Public Emergency starts at midnight on Thursday 2nd April 2020. His Excellency, the President, has also summoned an urgent sitting of parliament on COVID-19.

01 April 2020 — Seven (7) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to eighty-two (82).
•    One (4) traveler who had arrived from Dubai   
•    One (4) traveler who had arrived from UK  
•    Two (2) travelers with frequent travel in the region 
•    Three (3) contacts of previously confirmed positive cases 

Update COVID-19 31 March 2020

31 March 2020 — Five (5) new CoVID_19 cases were identified today, bringing the total to seventy-five (75).

•    Four (4) travelers who arrived from Dubai and who have been isolated 
•    One (1) contact of a previously confirmed positive case, and who has been isolated 


All patients are under treatment in stable condition in designated health facilities. The majority are asymptomatic, and no patient is in critical condition. The tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management. 

Update COVID-19 30 March 2020

30 March 2020 — No new CoVID_19 cases were identified today. The total remains seventy (70).

Sierra Leone confirms first case of COVID-19

Freetown, 31 March 2020 - The Ministry of Health and Sanitation of the Republic of Sierra Leone has reported the country’s first case of COVID-19. Samples tested at the Military 34 Hospital, and two other accredited laboratories to detect the virus, in the capital Freetown turned out positive on the evening of 30 March 2020.
