Clarification on the COVID-19 Vaccine Allergies

WHO wishes to clarify on an article that appeared in The Observer Newspaper and on its online platform https://observer.ug/news/headlines/68815-allergic-persons-advised-not-t… under the title: “Allergic person advised not to take COVID-19 vaccination”.  

WHO is aware that a small fraction of people – around one person in every one million people vaccinated— may have a severe allergic reaction to the COVID-19 vaccines, known as anaphylaxis.

13 March 2021 — Eighty-six (86) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3901 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty thousand, one hundred, and forty-three (20143). To date, eighteen thousand, and five hundred (18500) patients have recovered, including one hundred and thirty-nine (139) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, three hundred, and sixty-seven (1367) and two hundred, and seventy-six (276) deaths.

12 March 2021 — One hundred and twelve (112) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4503 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty thousand, and fifty-seven (20057). To date, eighteen thousand, three hundred, and sixty-one (18361) patients have recovered, including one hundred and twenty-five (125) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and twenty-one (1421) and two hundred, and seventy-five (275) deaths.

11 March 2021 — Ninety-nine (99) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4603 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases nineteen thousand, nine hundred, and forty-five (19945). To date, eighteen thousand, two hundred, and thirty-six (18236) patients have recovered, including one hundred and eighteen (118) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and thirty-six (1436) and two hundred, and seventy-three (273) deaths. 

WHO supports Malawi with medicine for scabies and equipment worth close to 86 million kwacha to improve health data systems and introduces international experts to manage cases of COVID-19 and control of the infodemic

The World Health Organization Malawi Country Office has donated 38 000 bottles of medicines for treating scabies and assorted Information Communication Technology equipment to the Malawi Ministry of Health to improve its efficiency in health data systems. Ministry of Health Honorable Kumbize Kandodo Chiponda received the donation from WHO Representative for Malawi, Dr. Nonhlanhla Dlamini.

Cabo Verde received Friday, March 12, its first batch of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, sent through the COVAX Initiative, a partnership between the Government of Cabo Verde, CEPI (Coalition for Innovation in Epidemic Preparedness), GAVI (Global Vaccine Alliance) and WHO (World Health Organization), in partnership with UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), the World Bank and others.
