07 February 2021 — One hundred, and fourteen (114) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4721 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases sixteen thousand, four hundred, and fifty-one (16451). To date, twelve thousand, three hundred, and forty-two (12342) patients have recovered, including two hundred, and ninety-five (295) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is three thousand, eight hundred, and eighty-nine (3889) and two hundred, and twenty (220) deaths.

06 February 2021 — One hundred, and fifty-eight (151) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4884 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases sixteen thousand, three hundred, and thirty-seven (16337). To date, twelve thousand, and forty-seven (12047) patients have recovered, including four hundred, and thirty (430) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, and seventy-three (4073) and two hundred, and thirteen (217) deaths. The 4 new deaths are all male of 79, 61, 56 and 51years old in Kigali.

05 February 2021 — One hundred, and ninety-eight (198) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4842 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases sixteen thousand, one hundred, and eighty-six (16186). To date, eleven thousand, six hundred, and seventeen (11617) patients have recovered, including two hundred, and sixty-five (265) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, three hundred, and fifty-six (4356) and two hundred, and thirteen (213) deaths.

04 February 2021 — One hundred, and fifty-four (154) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4135 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases fifteen thousand, nine hundred, and eighty-eight (15988). To date, eleven thousand, three hundred, and ninety-two (11392) patients have recovered, including three hundred, and eighty-nine (389) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, four hundred, and twenty-six (4426) and two hundred, and ten (210) deaths.

Ethiopia immunizes over 2 million girls against human papillomavirus (HPV)

Ethiopia has just completed a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign targeting 2.4 million 14 year-old girls across the country in two cohorts. One cohort took HPV1 – the first dose of the vaccine, while the second cohort was vaccinated the second dose of the vaccine (HPV2), which they missed due to school closures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The vaccination was conducted in schools, communities and health facilities from January 25 to 29, 2021.

COVAX expects to start sending millions of COVID-19 vaccines to Africa in February
COVAX has notified countries in Africa of the estimated dose allocation for the first phase of COVID-19 vaccine delivery. The global initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO), Gavi the Vaccine Alliance and The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) aims to start shipping nearly 90 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the continent in February, in what will be Africa’s largest ever mass vaccination campaign.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases fifteen thousand, eight hundred, and thirty-four (15834). To date, ten thousand, nine hundred, and sixty-three (10963) patients have recovered, including two hundred, and eighteen (218) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four thousand, six hundred, and sixty-three (4663) and two hundred, and eight (208) deaths.
