WHO/AFRO-UK high-level delegation starts visit to Ethiopia

A high level joint WHO/AFRO-UK delegation has been visiting Ethiopia since 20 February 2018. The delegation is led by Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa and Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England. Dr Moeti and Dame Sally Davies are accompanied by senior officials from DFID, the Department of Health and Social Care, Public Health England and senior officials of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO).

Health experts from over 15 countries have begun a two-day meeting in Pretoria, South Africa to agree on a range of evidence-based actions aimed at improving communications on routine childhood vaccinations in the African Region.

Nursing Now campaign to empower and support nurses in meeting 21st century health challenges

The Duchess of Cambridge will today join nurses and other health leaders across the world in launching a global campaign aimed at raising the profile and status of nursing. The campaign recognises that nurses are at the heart of countries’ efforts to provide health for all. As one of the most trusted professions, nurses provide effective and quality care for people of all ages and are central in addressing the increasing burden of noncommunicable diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, started her first official three-day visit to the Republic of Congo on 14 February to enhance cooperation on strengthening the country’s health system.
