Proceedings of the Africa Health Workforce Investment Forum 2024

The African Region has made modest progress in health workforce development over the last two decades alongside improvements in service coverage. There has been increased investment in training and education infrastructure, increasing the number of health professions education institutions to about 4000 from less than 1000 in 2005. This concomitantly culminated in an increase in the aggregate number of all health workers from 1.6 million in 2013 to about 4.3 million in 2018 and 5.1 million in 2022.
