Bolstering Africa’s health emergency readiness and response

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in partnership with Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, West African Health Organization, United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UK Health Security Agency, Robert Koch Institute and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation today kicked off the region’s largest public health emergency operation centre (PHEOC) simulation exercise to step up readiness to respond to public health emergencies, with 36 countries taking part in the two-day functional exercise.

South Sudan develops the next Health Sector Strategic Plan 2023-2027

2 December 2022, Juba - Strategic and operational planning are important for translating the National Health Policy Vision and Goals into actionable interventions that contributes to transforming the health and wellbeing of the people of South Sudan in line with the National Development Strategy  and sustainable development goals.

To deliver health services across South Sudan, the Ministry of Health with support from WHO is developing the second Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP) 2023-2027 to implement the second phase of the National Health Policy 2016-2026.

Bringing primary health services closer to underserved people in Gombe state

Gombe, 1 December, 2022 - The big idea about Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) is that health services should not be a luxury, and everyone, everywhere, should receive the quality healthcare they need without suffering financial hardship.

Tanzania commemorates World AIDS Day

Lindi Region - The World AIDS Day was commemorated nationally in Tanzania on the 1st of December 2022 with calls to end the HIV epidemic by 2030 by equalizing access to HIV prevention and treatment services and increasing domestic funding for the HIV and AIDS response.

Graced by the President of Tanzania, Honourable Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the climax of the commemoration took place in Lindi town in Southern Tanzania and converged myriad of national and international actors under the theme “EQUALIZE’.

Managing HIV In The Midst Of A Health Emergency

Akwii Magdalena is a seven-year-old girl enrolled in a primary school class in Kapelebyong District from the Karamoja Region of Uganda. The third of three children, Akwii is living with HIV just like the 87,719 children affected by the disease in the country.
