New COVID-19 rapid tests a game changer for Africa

Brazzaville – The roll-out of new, World Health Organization (WHO) approved antigen-based rapid diagnostic tests for the novel coronavirus in Africa will significantly boost testing capacity and marks a game changer in the continent’s fight against COVID-19.  

Update COVID-19 21 October 2020

21 October 2020 — Sixteen (16) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1306 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to five thousand, and twelve (5012). To date, four thousand, seven hundred, and ninety-eight (4798) patients have recovered, including one (1) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one hundred, and eighty (180) and thirty-four (34) deaths.  


The new cases are in Kigali (2), Kirehe (13) testing in refugee camp, and Nyagatare (1); heightened vigilance is required everywhere. 

Ghana Successfully Conducts 3 Rounds of Polio Supplementary Immunization Activities...

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has successfully completed the third round of its scheduled Polio SIA campaigns in eight regions despite the initial disruption caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic. The house-to-house campaign by health professionals and trained volunteers vaccinated over 4.6m eligible children (0-59 months) in the Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Volta, Upper West, Western and Western North regions.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, nine hundred, and ninety-six (4996). To date, four thousand, seven hundred, and ninety-seven (4797) patients have recovered and no one discharged in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one hundred, and sixty-one (161) and thirty-four (34) deaths.  
The new cases are in Kigali (4); heightened vigilance is required everywhere.

19 October 2020 — Eighteen (18) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1373 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four thousand, nine hundred, and ninety-two (4992). To date, four thousand, seven hundred, and ninety-seven (4797) patients have recovered and been discharged, including fourteen (14) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one hundred, and sixty-one (161) and thirty-four (34) deaths.
