WHO supports Government of Uganda to respond to the Cholera Outbreak among Refugees
28 February 2018, Hoima: - The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting the Ministry of Health in Uganda to respond to the Cholera outbreak in Kyangwali refugee camp, in Hoima district. As of 28 February, over 1000 cases have been registered and 31 people confirmed dead at the two treatment centers in Kasonga and Sebagoro in Kyangwali and Kabwoya sub-counties respectively.

Globally, it is estimated that 216 million cases of malaria occurred in 2016, with Africa bearing the brunt of this burden. In Tanzania, Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in children under 5 and pregnant women. Malaria is also the leading cause of outpatients, inpatients, and admissions of children less than five years of age at health facilities.

Malawi vaccinates 108 000 people against cholera in Karonga
The Government of Malawi has conducted the first round of a vaccination drive to immunize 108 000 people against cholera, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners.
The first round took place from 19-23 February 2018 in Karonga district, which is situated at the northern tip of Malawi, bordering Tanzania.

Sierra Leone maximizes protection against polio with new vaccine launch
FREETOWN, February 23 2018 --- Today Sierra Leone officially introduced injectable polio vaccine (or IPV) into its routine immunization programme to maximize protection against polio. IPV is used in many countries around the world to prevent the debilitating disease, and will now be available free of cost alongside the oral vaccine at health facilities across Sierra Leone.
