Zanzibar, 24 March 2018: The World TB Day was commemorated in Zanzibar with a theme “Wanted: Leaders for a TB Free World”. The day is commemorated annually on the 24th of March 2018 to increase public awareness and harness political support and leadership to combat TB.

7 April 2018, Luweero:- Uganda commemorated World Health Day on 7th April 2018 at St Kizito Primary School, Makulubita Sub-county in Luwero district under the theme “Universal Health Coverage: everyone, everywhere”. At the same function, WHO’s 70th anniversary was also marked with the Acting Director General of Health Dr Henry Mwebesa and WHO Representative Dr Yonas Woldemariam planting trees in recognition of that milestone.

On World TB Day 2018 in Malawi the Honorable Minister of Health and Population Atupele Muluzi, MP urged Malawians to unite in the fight to end TB. He said that in Malawi one out of every 10 people has tuberculosis, a problem that requires urgent attention by everyone. Honarable Muluzi was speaking at the commemoration ceremony that took place at Khombedza community ground in Salima on 24 March under the theme: “Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free World. You can Make History. End TB.”

MEDIA RELEASE: Top hierarchy of WHO to convene in Nigeria for the first time

Abuja, 8th April 2018 - The top hierarchy of the World Health Organization (WHO) will hold its Global Policy Group (GPG) Meeting in Nigeria for the first time from 10-12 April, 2018. 

The GPG consists of the Director-General, Deputy Director-General, six Regional Directors and the Executive Director of the WHO Emergencies Programme. The Group is an internal advisory mechanism to the Director-General (DG), established to ensure the coherent implementation of decisions, policies and strategies of WHO across all levels of the Organization.
